DESCRIPTION:Join us for this workshop and discover the joy of textile screen printing! This beginner-friendly class will introduce you to essential silk screen printing techniques and give you hands-on experience printing with various inks on fabric. \nWe’ll guide you through the entire process\, from preparing a screen with photo emulsion to exposing it with different stencils and getting it ready for printing. With all the fundamental techniques covered\, you’ll be well-equipped to start your own textile printing projects. You’re also welcome to bring your own clothes or tote bags made from natural materials to print your designs on. \n  \nWhat you’ll learn: ​​​​\n\nUnderstanding your screen\, fabric\, and squeegee options\, so that you can make informed choices\nDemonstration of photo emulsion coating and exposure\nWhat to consider when designing imagery for printing on textiles and specific techniques for pulling prints on fabric\nA chance to try out some unusual inks and experimental processes\nMake prints that last! Xing is the recipient of grants and scholarships from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Social Science and Humanities Research Council\, which support her research exploring themes related to culinary cultures\, human connections\, and the transmission of traditions within immigrant families. DESCRIPTION:Hurry before it sells out!  \nScreen printing (or silkscreen) is a printmaking technique where layers of ink are pulled through a mesh screen to create a wonderfully detailed image\, often with multiple layers of transparent ink interacting with one another. An excellent resource so that you can confidently get your artwork gallery-ready for shows or just hang your work up at home when you finish it. Learn the difference between what is archival and non-archival in picture framing. You will also learn various archival mounting techniques. The class will include learning to custom cut mats and you will go home with a fully fitted 8 x 10 picture frame. \nThis course is suitable for all experience levels. \nWhat you’ll learn: ​​​​\n\nThe basic components of a custom-framed artwork on paper\nWhat’s archival\, and what’s not\, when it comes to custom framing\nMeasuring and cutting a basic custom mat window using archival 4-ply mat board\nArchival mounting techniques (framing corners and t-hinges)\nFully fitting an 8″x10″ frame with a 5″x7″ printed artwork to take home\nSourcing supplies\n\n\nAbout the instructor:\nAlison has over a decade of experience in archival custom picture framing.
