SUMMARY:Custom Picture Framing Basics
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will take you through the basics of custom picture framing paper artwork. An excellent resource so that you can confidently get your artwork gallery-ready for shows or just hang your work up at home when you finish it. Learn the difference between what is archival and non-archival in picture framing. You will also learn various archival mounting techniques. The class will include learning to custom cut mats and you will go home with a fully fitted 8 x 10 picture frame. \nThis course is suitable for all experience levels. \nWhat you’ll learn: ​​​​\n\nThe basic components of a custom-framed artwork on paper\nWhat’s archival\, and what’s not\, when it comes to custom framing\nMeasuring and cutting a basic custom mat window using archival 4-ply mat board\nArchival mounting techniques (framing corners and t-hinges)\nFully fitting an 8″x10″ frame with a 5″x7″ printed artwork to take home\nSourcing supplies\n\n\nAbout the instructor:\nAlison has over a decade of experience in archival custom picture framing. SUMMARY:Chine Collé Secrets
DESCRIPTION:Take your prints to the next level! This one-day chine-collé workshop would be ideal for those with some prior printmaking experience\, who may have old etching plates they would like to revisit\, old proofs printed on washi paper\, monotypes\, or drawings rendered in oil-based inks. In this workshop\, students will learn how to chine-collé\, a process of printing on Japanese rice paper and bonding to a heavier substrate\, both with and without a press. Over the course of a single class\, Participants will extend their print knowledge as students will walk through the chine- collé process step-by-step to make unique works of art. \n  \nWhat you’ll learn: ​​​​\n\nOperating an etching press\nPaper selection \nMixing and applying rice paste\nCollage techniques \nHow to chine-collé at home \n\n\nAbout the instructor:\nMyken McDowell is an Edmonton-based visual artist and educator. DESCRIPTION:This Linocut Basics workshop will provide an introduction to linocut printmaking\, covering the fundamentals of design\, carving\, and printing. THE FIX-ITS is a parody performance\, and installation work assuming the characters of a multi-talented duo of contract workers who critique systems of oppression and misogyny within professional spaces through hard work\, physical labor and community care. Getting to work as THE FIX-ITS required the proper OHS approved signage\, designating spaces to be soft and silly with yourself. This installation is the accumulation of the FIX-ITS body of work and will consist of the quilted signage used in our FIX-ITS performances\, our constructed light box art crate signs\, screenprints\, and textile work. \nGeorgia Dawkin and Drew Pardy are the two halves of the friendship heart necklace that is HOT 4 THE MOMENT. A creative collective\, HOT 4 THE MOMENT developed as a way for Georgia Dawkin and Drew Pardy to combine common themes within their work\, and to provide a space for play within their art practices.  \nHOT 4 THE MOMENT has exhibited in Eastern Edge Gallery (NL)\, Neutral Ground Artist Run Centre (SK)\, designed sets for Lawnya Vawnya Music Festival (NL)\, and performed at CB Nuit (NL)\, and the Atlantic Arts Symposium (NB). They were the 2024 Elbow Room Artists in Residence at The Rooms (NL) and the VANL Emerging Artists of the Year in 2024. Both Georgia and Drew are currently based in St. John’s\, NL and have received their BFAs from Grenfell Campus\, Memorial University.

SUMMARY:Intro to Reduction Linocut
DESCRIPTION:This intro class to the reduction linocut technique will teach the basics of the process through the creation of a 3 layer reduction woodcut at the Alberta Printmakers studio over the course of four evening classes. \nThe reduction process is one way of introducing colour into the relief printing process without the necessity of having multiple blocks. DESCRIPTION:Monotypes are one of a kind prints that combine printing\, painting\, and drawing techniques with surprising and painterly results. In the course we will create monotypes with and without the press\, using both additive and reductive techniques.  \nThis is a great workshop for beginners\, intermediate\, and experienced printmakers who want to loosen up and embrace painterly mark making. SUMMARY:Intro to Reduction Linocut
DESCRIPTION:This intro class to the reduction linocut technique will teach the basics of the process through the creation of a 3 layer reduction woodcut at the Alberta Printmakers studio over the course of four evening classes. \nThe reduction process is one way of introducing colour into the relief printing process without the necessity of having multiple blocks. DESCRIPTION:Monotypes are one of a kind prints that combine printing\, painting\, and drawing techniques with surprising and painterly results. In the course we will create monotypes with and without the press\, using both additive and reductive techniques.  \nThis is a great workshop for beginners\, intermediate\, and experienced printmakers who want to loosen up and embrace painterly mark making. DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Opening Reception to celebrate NOTICE ME! by HOT 4 THE MOMENT \nThe Artist Talk will begin shortly after 7pm\, followed by the reception until 9pm. \nLight refreshments provided. \nThis event is FREE and all are welcome. \nAbout the Exhibition:\nGiving ourselves the space to be soft and silly during these times is a radical act and deserves some attention! \nHOT 4 THE MOMENT will be taking over the Alberta Printmakers Main Gallery with NOTICE ME!\, a printed and quilted construction site. THE FIX-ITS is a parody performance\, and installation work assuming the characters of a multi-talented duo of contract workers who critique systems of oppression and misogyny within professional spaces through hard work\, physical labor and community care. Getting to work as THE FIX-ITS required the proper OHS approved signage\, designating spaces to be soft and silly with yourself. This installation is the accumulation of the FIX-ITS body of work and will consist of the quilted signage used in our FIX-ITS performances\, our constructed light box art crate signs\, screenprints\, and textile work. \nGeorgia Dawkin and Drew Pardy are the two halves of the friendship heart necklace that is HOT 4 THE MOMENT. A creative collective\, HOT 4 THE MOMENT developed as a way for Georgia Dawkin and Drew Pardy to combine common themes within their work\, and to provide a space for play within their art practices.  \nHOT 4 THE MOMENT has exhibited in Eastern Edge Gallery (NL)\, Neutral Ground Artist Run Centre (SK)\, designed sets for Lawnya Vawnya Music Festival (NL)\, and performed at CB Nuit (NL)\, and the Atlantic Arts Symposium (NB). They were the 2024 Elbow Room Artists in Residence at The Rooms (NL) and the VANL Emerging Artists of the Year in 2024. Come design and expose your own beautiful cyanotype prints! \nCyanotype is a photography method that involves laying an objects\, drawings\, or photo negatives on a surface coated with a solution of iron salts before exposing it to UV light and washing with water to create stunning white and Prussian blue images. With the help of AP staff\, we will direct how you can use your own drawings\, photographs\, or small\, soft\, objects to create images on paper with the best results. DESCRIPTION:Ever wonder how those beautifully illustrated old books were made? With all those fancy lines and cross hatching? Picasso\, Degas\, Rembrandt and Francisco de Goya have all made famous works just with basic copper etching techniques! \nThis course will cover the fundamentals of etching\, including drypoint\, hardground and aquatint ground techniques. Participants will learn how to use a traditional 15th century style printing press\, to create their works. \n  \nWhat you’ll learn: ​​​​\n\nBrief history and relevance\nCopper plate preparation\, cutting\, bevelling\, sanding\, removing scratches\nDrypoint Technique\nCopper plate inking\, registration\, printing and press use\nHardground Etching Technique\nIntro to Aquatint\n\n  \nAbout the instructor:\nAlison has over a decade of experience in archival custom picture framing. Membership fees can be applied directly to your workshop registration. \n\nThis workshop includes all project supplies\, students are recommended to:\n\nBring sketches/ideas designed to 4×6 size\, try to bring 3 include both a line drawing/image and shaded value drawing/image if possible.\nArrive no more than 10 minutes before class.\nPark in the stalls located in front of A/P or use free street parking.\nBring a snack and water bottle.\nBring a notebook/sketchbook and pen.\nBring reading glasses if you need them for fine work.\nWear suitable clothing for working with ink and/or a work apron.\nWear close toed shoes and avoid overly loose long sleeves.\nTie back long hair when operating machinery.\nPersonal PPE (goggles if uncomfortable sharing Studio PPE)\n\n\nAdditional Notes: \n\nClass limited to 5 Participants\nAdults 18+ Years Old\n\n—————————————————————————\n\nCode of Conduct:\nTo support an environment which promotes dignity and respect to all\, no form of intimidation\, bullying or harassment will be tolerated. Once the class or workshop has begun\, A/P is unable to issue a refund as we are subject to a minimum enrolment in order to run. \nIf A/P cancels a course due to low enrolment\, notice will be given at least 72 hours in advance with a full refund issued. For classes cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances\, registrants will receive a full refund.
