SUMMARY:Intro to Etching
DESCRIPTION:Ever wonder how those beautifully illustrated old books were made? With all those fancy lines and cross hatching? Picasso\, Degas\, Rembrandt and Francisco de Goya have all made famous works just with basic copper etching techniques! \nThis course will cover the fundamentals of etching\, including drypoint\, hardground and aquatint ground techniques. Participants will learn how to use a traditional 15th century style printing press\, to create their works. \nNo experience required! \nWhat you’ll learn: ​​​​\n\nBrief history and relevance\nCopper plate preparation\, cutting\, bevelling\, sanding\, removing scratches\nDrypoint Technique\nCopper plate inking\, registration\, printing and press use\nHardground Etching Technique\nIntro to Aquatint\n\n  \nAbout the instructor:\nAlison has over a decade of experience in archival custom picture framing. She holds a BFA from the University of Regina and an MFA in Printmaking from Louisiana State University. Originally from the South Saskatchewan prairies\, she currently lives in Calgary.  She is involved in the art community\, exhibiting her work\, coordinating community exhibitions and events\, teaching and volunteering. Annual memberships are $30 and $10 for current students and current recipients of AISH. Membership fees can be applied directly to your workshop registration. \n\nThis workshop includes all project supplies\, students are recommended to:\n\nBring sketches/ideas designed to 4×6 size\, try to bring 3 include both a line drawing/image and shaded value drawing/image if possible.\nArrive no more than 10 minutes before class.\nPark in the stalls located in front of A/P or use free street parking.\nBring a snack and water bottle.\nBring a notebook/sketchbook and pen.\nBring reading glasses if you need them for fine work.\nWear suitable clothing for working with ink and/or a work apron.\nWear close toed shoes and avoid overly loose long sleeves.\nTie back long hair when operating machinery.\nPersonal PPE (goggles if uncomfortable sharing Studio PPE)\n\n\nAdditional Notes: \n\nClass limited to 5 Participants\nAdults 18+ Years Old\n\n—————————————————————————\n\nCode of Conduct:\nTo support an environment which promotes dignity and respect to all\, no form of intimidation\, bullying or harassment will be tolerated. Once the class or workshop has begun\, A/P is unable to issue a refund as we are subject to a minimum enrolment in order to run. \nIf A/P cancels a course due to low enrolment\, notice will be given at least 72 hours in advance with a full refund issued. For classes cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances\, registrants will receive a full refund.
