SUMMARY:Intro to Reduction Linocut
DESCRIPTION:This intro class to the reduction linocut technique will teach the basics of the process through the creation reduction linocut at the Alberta Printmakers studio over the course of two classes. \nThe reduction process is one way of introducing colour into the relief printing process without the necessity of having multiple blocks. Students will be instructed on ways of designing imagery at 6 x 8″ for reduction printing\, useful approaches to the carving process\, the use of a registration jig\, and finally the setting of the press and printing.  \nParticipants should leave the workshop with a small edition of reduction prints designed and printed by themselves as well as a good foundation in the technique to allow them to continue with their own personal explorations. \nSome prior experience with relief printmaking (linocut or woodcut) is an advantage to taking this workshop but is not a necessity. \n  \nWhat you’ll learn: ​​​​\n\nWhat should be considered when designing an image for the reduction process\nHow to transfer the image to the block\nThe basics of carving linoleum\nHow to achieve accurate registration for multiple layers of colour\nThe printing process\n\n  \nAbout the instructor:\nJonathan Creese is a Trinidadian artist\, currently living\, working\, and studying in Calgary AB. Being introduced to art primarily from the realm of printmaking\, his work uses the language and sensibilities of printmaking to highlight the realities of the cultural and socio political landscape of his homeland. Membership fees can be applied directly to your workshop registration. \n\nThis workshop includes all project supplies\, students are recommended to:\n\nCome prepared with image ideas or a creative direction to ground your design process.\nArrive no more than 10 minutes before class.\nPark in the stalls located in front of A/P or use free street parking.\nBring a snack and water bottle.\nBring a notebook/sketchbook and pen.\nBring reading glasses if you need them for fine work.\nWear suitable clothing for working with ink and/or a work apron.\nWear close toed shoes and avoid overly loose long sleeves.\nTie back long hair when operating machinery.\nPersonal PPE (goggles if uncomfortable sharing Studio PPE)\n\n\nAdditional Notes: \n\nClass limited to 6 Participants\nAdults 18+ Years Old\n\n—————————————————————————\n\nCode of Conduct:\nTo support an environment which promotes dignity and respect to all\, no form of intimidation\, bullying or harassment will be tolerated.
