SUMMARY:Intro to Screen Printing
DESCRIPTION:Hurry before it sells out!  \nScreen printing (or silkscreen) is a printmaking technique where layers of ink are pulled through a mesh screen to create a wonderfully detailed image\, often with multiple layers of transparent ink interacting with one another. In this comprehensive workshop\, students will gain an understanding of the processes involved in creating a screen print on paper within a professional printmaking studio and will leave with the knowledge and experience required to produce work independently. \nThis course is suitable for all levels with no prior experience needed. \n\nWhat you’ll learn: ​​​​\n\nBoth analogue and digital methods of creating stencilsCoating a screen with emulsion\nBurning the screen on the exposure unit\nMixing ink\nRegistering multiple layers\nPulling prints\nCleaning/ reclaiming screens\n\n\nAbout the instructor:\nOriginally from Montreal Quebec\, Statz completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the Alberta College of Art + Design in 2000\, and received his Masters of Fine Arts degree in Print Media at Concordia University in 2008. SUMMARY:Intro to Etching
DESCRIPTION:Ever wonder how those beautifully illustrated old books were made? With all those fancy lines and cross hatching? Picasso\, Degas\, Rembrandt and Francisco de Goya have all made famous works just with basic copper etching techniques! \nThis course will cover the fundamentals of etching\, including drypoint\, hardground and aquatint ground techniques. Participants will learn how to use a traditional 15th century style printing press\, to create their works. \n  \nWhat you’ll learn: ​​​​\n\nBrief history and relevance\nCopper plate preparation\, cutting\, bevelling\, sanding\, removing scratches\nDrypoint Technique\nCopper plate inking\, registration\, printing and press use\nHardground Etching Technique\nIntro to Aquatint\n\n  \nAbout the instructor:\nAlison has over a decade of experience in archival custom picture framing. She holds a BFA from the University of Regina and an MFA in Printmaking from Louisiana State University. Originally from the South Saskatchewan prairies\, she currently lives in Calgary.  She is involved in the art community\, exhibiting her work\, coordinating community exhibitions and events\, teaching and volunteering.
