DESCRIPTION:Hurry before it sells out!  \nScreen printing (or silkscreen) is a printmaking technique where layers of ink are pulled through a mesh screen to create a wonderfully detailed image\, often with multiple layers of transparent ink interacting with one another. In this comprehensive workshop\, students will gain an understanding of the processes involved in creating a screen print on paper within a professional printmaking studio and will leave with the knowledge and experience required to produce work independently. \nThis course is suitable for all levels with no prior experience needed. \n\nWhat you’ll learn: ​​​​\n\nBoth analogue and digital methods of creating stencilsCoating a screen with emulsion\nBurning the screen on the exposure unit\nMixing ink\nRegistering multiple layers\nPulling prints\nCleaning/ reclaiming screens\n\n\nAbout the instructor:\nOriginally from Montreal Quebec\, Statz completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the Alberta College of Art + Design in 2000\, and received his Masters of Fine Arts degree in Print Media at Concordia University in 2008. DESCRIPTION:Join us for an ONLINE artist talk with HOT 4 THE MOMENT as they share about their artistic practice and current exhibition: NOTICE ME! \nDATE: Friday\, March 7\, 2025 \nTIME: 6:30pm – 7:30pm (Mountain Time) \nLOCATION: Virtually over Zoom \nREGISTER: Click HERE to register  \nThis event is FREE and all are welcome. \n  \nAbout the Exhibition:\nGiving ourselves the space to be soft and silly during these times is a radical act and deserves some attention! \nHOT 4 THE MOMENT will be taking over the Alberta Printmakers Main Gallery with NOTICE ME!\, a printed and quilted construction site. THE FIX-ITS is a parody performance\, and installation work assuming the characters of a multi-talented duo of contract workers who critique systems of oppression and misogyny within professional spaces through hard work\, physical labor and community care. Getting to work as THE FIX-ITS required the proper OHS approved signage\, designating spaces to be soft and silly with yourself. This installation is the accumulation of the FIX-ITS body of work and will consist of the quilted signage used in our FIX-ITS performances\, our constructed light box art crate signs\, screenprints\, and textile work. \nGeorgia Dawkin and Drew Pardy are the two halves of the friendship heart necklace that is HOT 4 THE MOMENT. A creative collective\, HOT 4 THE MOMENT developed as a way for Georgia Dawkin and Drew Pardy to combine common themes within their work\, and to provide a space for play within their art practices.  \nHOT 4 THE MOMENT has exhibited in Eastern Edge Gallery (NL)\, Neutral Ground Artist Run Centre (SK)\, designed sets for Lawnya Vawnya Music Festival (NL)\, and performed at CB Nuit (NL)\, and the Atlantic Arts Symposium (NB). They were the 2024 Elbow Room Artists in Residence at The Rooms (NL) and the VANL Emerging Artists of the Year in 2024. Both Georgia and Drew are currently based in St. John’s\, NL and have received their BFAs from Grenfell Campus\, Memorial University.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for this workshop and discover the joy of textile screen printing! This beginner-friendly class will introduce you to essential silk screen printing techniques and give you hands-on experience printing with various inks on fabric. \nWe’ll guide you through the entire process\, from preparing a screen with photo emulsion to exposing it with different stencils and getting it ready for printing. With all the fundamental techniques covered\, you’ll be well-equipped to start your own textile printing projects. You’re also welcome to bring your own clothes or tote bags made from natural materials to print your designs on. \n  \nWhat you’ll learn: ​​​​\n\nUnderstanding your screen\, fabric\, and squeegee options\, so that you can make informed choices\nDemonstration of photo emulsion coating and exposure\nWhat to consider when designing imagery for printing on textiles and specific techniques for pulling prints on fabric\nA chance to try out some unusual inks and experimental processes\nMake prints that last! How to finish and care for your textile print.  \nQ&A time\n\n  \nAbout the instructor:\nYilu Xing is an artist-educator with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the Alberta University of the Arts and a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Alberta\, specialized in Printmaking. Xing is the recipient of grants and scholarships from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Social Science and Humanities Research Council\, which support her research exploring themes related to culinary cultures\, human connections\, and the transmission of traditions within immigrant families. Her recent work includes public-based interactive installations\, prints\, drawings\, ceramics\, and videos.
