DESCRIPTION:Ever wonder how those beautifully illustrated old books were made? With all those fancy lines and cross hatching? Picasso\, Degas\, Rembrandt and Francisco de Goya have all made famous works just with basic copper etching techniques! \nThis course will cover the fundamentals of etching\, including drypoint\, hardground and aquatint ground techniques. Participants will learn how to use a traditional 15th century style printing press\, to create their works. \n  \nWhat you’ll learn: ​​​​\n\nBrief history and relevance\nCopper plate preparation\, cutting\, bevelling\, sanding\, removing scratches\nDrypoint Technique\nCopper plate inking\, registration\, printing and press use\nHardground Etching Technique\nIntro to Aquatint\n\n  \nAbout the instructor:\nAlison has over a decade of experience in archival custom picture framing. She holds a BFA from the University of Regina and an MFA in Printmaking from Louisiana State University. SUMMARY:Chine Collé Secrets
DESCRIPTION:Take your prints to the next level! This one-day chine-collé workshop would be ideal for those with some prior printmaking experience\, who may have old etching plates they would like to revisit\, old proofs printed on washi paper\, monotypes\, or drawings rendered in oil-based inks. In this workshop\, students will learn how to chine-collé\, a process of printing on Japanese rice paper and bonding to a heavier substrate\, both with and without a press. Over the course of a single class\, Participants will extend their print knowledge as students will walk through the chine- collé process step-by-step to make unique works of art. \n  \nWhat you’ll learn: ​​​​\n\nOperating an etching press\nPaper selection \nMixing and applying rice paste\nCollage techniques \nHow to chine-collé at home \n\n\nAbout the instructor:\nMyken McDowell is an Edmonton-based visual artist and educator. DESCRIPTION:Join us for this workshop and discover the joy of textile screen printing! This beginner-friendly class will introduce you to essential silk screen printing techniques and give you hands-on experience printing with various inks on fabric. \nWe’ll guide you through the entire process\, from preparing a screen with photo emulsion to exposing it with different stencils and getting it ready for printing. Xing is the recipient of grants and scholarships from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Social Science and Humanities Research Council\, which support her research exploring themes related to culinary cultures\, human connections\, and the transmission of traditions within immigrant families. Her recent work includes public-based interactive installations\, prints\, drawings\, ceramics\, and videos. DESCRIPTION:Are you ready to expand your letterpress skills and broaden your printing abilities? \nJoin us for a deeper look at printing with platen and cylinder presses and increase your independence within the print shop! \nThe class is excellent for students who own or are considering purchasing their own press or those who want to independently use the A/P Studio presses with greater confidence. \n  \nWhat you’ll learn: ​​​​\n\nSkill and terminology refresher from Intro to Letterpress\nTympan Paper and Packing changes\nSetting Gauge Pins and aligning with your forme.\nBasic Typesetting Techniques\nMixing type and/or linocuts to print your own design\nBasic maintenance of Vandercook SP-15\, Craftsman Superior\, Nolan\, and Kelsey Presses\nTroubleshooting printing issues\n\n\nAbout the instructor:\nMichelle Wiebe is a Cochrane\, Alberta-based artist focused primarily on painting\, printmaking and letterpress. With a great fondness for all things print\, you can find her fixing rusty presses or spending time printing at Alberta Printmakers.
