About the Exhibition
Oral Microflora contemplates the small world of cellular life that surrounds us, specifically the microbial life that comes into contact with our mouths. This imagery explores the relationship between cellular life and humans, how these small, seemingly trivial things have a huge effect on our daily lives.
This print creates the response of viewers instantly reaching for their hand sanitizer, but it also allows viewers to see the beauty of microbial life. This relationship we share with microbes is one that is both symbiotic and nocuous, we can’t survive with- out them and yet they can be deadly. Oral Microflora I causes the viewer to be both uncomfortable as well as in awe of these tiny cells that surround our everyday lives.
