About the Exhibition
A/P has organized an exchange show with the Northwest Print Council (NWPC), a not-for-profit group operating out of Portland, Oregon. A/P’s exhibition is held in the Salem Art Association, Bush Barn Art Center. In return, the NWPC prints will be displayed at the Lethbridge Public Library Theatre Gallery.
This is our first out-of-Canada exhibition! On display are 47 prints by 27 A/P members. The exhibition is apart of an exchange exhibition with the Northwest Print Council of Portland. It was proposed in early 1990, and has taken now to accomplish. In 1990 we sent a handful of slides to Salem, so that they could see the mind of work being produced in Alberta. Early in 1992 we made a cross Canada call for entries and received slides from Halifax, Toronto, Newfoundland, and even Edmonton. One hundred and forty slides were received in all. They were compiled and sent to the NWPC for their consideration, and finally to Salem where the final choices were made. A/P was notified immediately after that and the slides were returned.
Once we knew which pieces were chosen, we shipped them off, 150 lbs. in all. Thanks to Burlington Express for whisking them through customs without delay!
The exhibition itself is a good mix of mediums; from Ken Webb’s rich and sharp edged Totem intaglios, to the subtle and enigmatic printed characters on the lino prints by Andy Butler. There is also a good range of sizes, from 12 inches to almost 4 feet.
