About the Exhibition
“Man stands face to face with the irrational. He feels within him his longing for happiness and for reason. The absurd is born of this confrontation between the human need and the unreasonable silence of the world” – Albert Camus, The Myth of Sisyphus
interweave is a diptych of intaglio prints that toys with representation of the intrinsic duality of one’s desire to find reason, structure, placement juxtaposed with the pleasures of losing oneself within the irrational, the letting go of conformity and expectations. On one side the well crafted stitch stands in as the crafted life that we consciously work to build, and the other is the wild nature of letting go. Within both sides, lie beauty and darkness, foreboding and anticipation.
Artist Bio: carrie phillips kieser is a Calgary-based artist whose work revolves around relationships between control and helplessness. Through symbolism and motifs she explores ideas around the uncanny; where something can be both familiar yet alien at the same time, resulting in a feeling of strange uncomfortability.
