Print(ed) Word

Calgary Central Library 800 3rd Street SE, Calgary

Print(ed) Word is a collection of artist books that were created through pairing 12 local writers with 12 local print-artists who collaborated in reimagining existing texts into hand-made book forms.

This project was led by A/P and Loft 112 with funding support from Canada Council for the Arts. The permanent installation in Calgary's Central Library was made possible through the support of Calgary Public Library, Calgary Public Library Foundation, and the J K L MacLachlan Family Foundation.

No Place Like Homo

A/P Gallery 4025 4th Street SE, Calgary

No Place Like Homo brings together screenprinted ceramic tile and prints on paper to illustrate a non-linear experience of masculine pregnancy and queer home life. Taking root at the intersection of reproductive justice and queer liberation, No Place Like Homo draws on themes of choice, loss, intention, and autonomy, and questions what it means to “conceive of” in the context of conception itself. The exhibition explores contrasting desires for visibility and for safety, offering a view that is both zoomed in and zoomed out, tender, lighthearted, resolute, and joyfully mundane.

COURSE SUMMARY:
Hurry before it sells out!

Screen printing (or silkscreen) is a printmaking technique where layers of ink are pulled through a mesh screen to create a wonderfully detailed image, often with multiple layers of transparent ink interacting with one another. In this comprehensive workshop, students will gain an understanding of the processes involved in creating a screen print on paper within a professional printmaking studio and will leave with the knowledge and experience required to produce work independently.

This course is suitable for all levels with no prior experience needed.
