DATE: May 24 (single day event)
TIME: 9:30am-12pm, 2pm-5pm
Want to learn more about the world of printmaking? If you want to give it a go but have no idea where to start, this workshop is for you! Located off-site at YWCA Calgary in Inglewood, you will get a hands-on taste of FOUR unique techniques, including screen printing, drypoint, linocut, and typesetting on the Nolan Press. Come away with four unique prints! This course is a perfect choice for those beginning in print or want to dabble in different techniques as a lead-up for taking further courses that Alberta Printmakers offers.
This workshop will be split into two groups, working on two different techniques simultaneously. In the morning, from 9:30 am-12:00 pm, we will cover drypoint and letterpress. Drypoint is an intaglio process in which a design is drawn on a plate with a sharp, pointed needle-like instrument. Ink is pressed into the grooves, the plate is wiped and then printed to reveal a positive image with intricate linework. In letterpress, small groups will work together to compose a text-based image that can be quickly printed in multiples.
In the afternoon, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, participants will make silkscreen and linocut prints. For silkscreen, participants will cut stencils to attach to the screen and print their own unique compositions.
